The child paints a face on each side of the spoon, one happy, one sad. Yarn "hair", or other decorative touches may be added. A fabric dress can be tied to the handle. When the character's mood changes from happy to sad, the child turns the handle to reveal the sad face.

Children will be interested to know that during the Restoration plays, actors would have masks of illusion showing whatever emotion they were feeling.
